Elle is a talented Christchurch photographer who was in need of a logo and business card at the beginning of her photography career.
Elle is a punny human and absolutely loves a good play on words. She's elegant, professional and her clients always rave when they get their photos back. I wanted to create a logo that felt like her - and really lean into her love of double meanings.
Since her business name, Elle Catraz, is a play on words - Elle's name slotting easily into "Alcatraz" - she wanted to somehow include a jailbird into the logo.
The rest was up to me.
The Choices.
Starting with the idea of a bird, I played around with different icons and designs. As she loves a double meanings, I thought I'd not just stop on a bird icon but try to include a reference to photography as well.
I created a simplified, geometric bird sitting atop an aperture, which is what allows light to reach the sensor in cameras.
I kept it clean and simple to make sure her logo and icon were always easily identifiable as a watermarks and to represent her natural elegance.
